I don't know why, but I wish that it didn't. I can't locate it right now, but I have actually heard it argued from the emergent camp that the resurrection wasn't necessary. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

Another thing-there is absolutely no excuse for the emergent church to exist. I have heard them call certain parts of the Bible a myth and they question Gods Holy Word! One leg in the world and one leg reading the Bible. How do you sit on the fence like that? Instead of looking to a denomination to fill some "vacuum" then why don't you look to Jesus Christ and Him Crucified as the object of your Faith, read the word and ask the Lord to Reveal Scripture to you?

I totally agree Ken! It is my belief that we as Christians should be pointing to Christ and His death on the Cross. I have noticed that emergents don't do that at all! It is selfish, and based on what THEY do and not what Christ already did. I mean for starters what is their foundation?

Seems like nothing more than a glorified "youthful" catholic gathering to me. Short on doctrine and heavy on social programs. Helping the poor is good, but it doesn't save. The correct Gospel does.

The emergent church exists because of the vacuum that protestant evangelicalism left. Protestant evangelicalism says that Torah is done away with. So the laws contained within Torah for rightly dealing with wealth and poverty get ignored or at least truncated. The emergent church attempts in vain to deal with those issues because they water down the gospel and ignore Torah. Protestant evangelicalism says that the 7 moedim (the 6 festivals+Yom Kippurim) are “legalistic burdens” and replaced those days with things like Easter, Lent, Ash Wednesday, Christmas, etc (In all fairness I should say that the protestants continued with the replacement holy days of the Roman Catholic church.) Incidentally, the 1st Century believers kept the moedim– a careful reading of the New Testament makes this clear. The emergents follow protestant evangelicalism’s disdain for the everlasting ordinances, and try to fill the vacuum by making up their own activities/rituals– things like ‘Judas Ceremonies’. It seems to me that Protestant evangelicalism and the emergents have more in common than not. The only difference is that the emergents take the mistakes a few steps further.

Jeanne,
Have you asked Donnie if there any churches in your area? I know a lot of people heard about our church because our church sponsore Donnie when he came to our town. I would have to recommend all of Pastor Jimmys study guides because the man know what he is talkin about! Are you pentecostal in nature? I say in nature because I am pentecostal and so is our church but we are independent just as Family Worship Center is. I will pray for you guys to find a church though, because in these last days we believers need to be closer.

Alexandria, it is good to find another Sonlife radio listener at Slice. I live in Palestine, Tx. My family and I left a seeker church also in Florida. Then left altogether for Texas. Unfortunately, we can't find a church that preaches the Cross. We are meeting every Sunday (three of us) and studying Jimmy Swaggart's study on the Holy Spirit from Genesis to Revelation. We just finished God's plans for the Ages. I recommend both.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing the info on Brigitte Gabriel with Slice readers. I didn't think to. Looking forward to hearing what she has to say in Sept. God bless, Jeanne

I have " The Expositor's Bible". Ihave been enjoying reading it. It has cleared up a lot of questions I had.

My biggest concern right now is. Alxxndria how are you doing? I was thinking of you. I pray that you stay in the word. And yes look to the finished work of the cross. Everything begins and ends right there. I know Jesus was waiting for your little one. God Bless you.
